Jacobs Solutions Inc. is an American international technical services firm. The company provides engineering, professional and construction services, as well as speciality consulting for clients across the globe. With offices in over 50 countries worldwide, this was the second project Jacobs entrusted Somerville as the main fit-out contractor to deliver their new commercial offices.
The project was procured by competitive Design and Build
contract with Jacobs. Somerville met with the client to gain an understanding
of their office fit-out requirements and timeline. This allowed for accurate
costing to ensure budget constraints were adhered to and met. Following the process,
a design team was appointed, managed and co-ordinated. Todd Architects develop the
clients initial design scheme intent to reach an agreed construction scope.

Based in south Dublin - Jacobs new offices cover an impressive 20,000sq ft on the 2nd floor of the Termini building With floor-to-ceiling glazing throughout, the space maximised natural light. For this reason, all desk and seating arrangements were positioned by the windows to amplify the daylight. The main fit-out details for this project are:
Guests are greeted with a bright blue Welcome Wall as they enter the reception 'Porch' area. The Porch acts as a security buffer to the main office 'The Park’ environment while maintaining some transparency. The design is simple yet impactful, showcasing the clients visual identity in large acrylic lettering.
On entering ‘The Park’ - vivid colours and open-plan spaces are evident. With abundant breakout zones and seating pods dotted around the office, staff can take a call or quick meeting whenever and wherever they choose. The 200-strong office desks surround the floor-to-ceiling windows, so everyone benefits from natural light during the day.
In the main office desk areas, suspended ceilings are in place. Exposed ceilings and services with black feature baffles are on show in the social areas, providing a fun and eye-catching visual. Several medium, small, and extra-small collaboration rooms will hold 2 – 12 people. A wellness room allows individuals to relax and take time out when needed. Two large boardrooms with AV equipment can be combined to create one large conference room using semi-automatic folding partitions. These doors can be found in other areas of the offices, transforming how the space is utilised from open-plan to something more private.
The Jacobs company brand flows throughout the office, with its recognisable identity and use of a bold colour palette using art and colour blocking of concrete columns within the floor space.
An eye-catching feature within the offices is a 15ft wide moss wall set alongside the breakout spaces and hospitality bar. The live moss wall carries the company tagline – “Challenging today. Reinventing tomorrow.” with white backlit acrylic lettering. This low-maintenance wall is displayed using a variety of green hues to create a striking backdrop within the office.
Like many companies, moving away from traditional office environments is more common as people crave space and freedom in the workplace. Possessing large workforce requires a carefully thought-out office design to ensure optimal productivity and creativity. Departments and teams need space to communicate and innovate which is why a planning for an agile office was designed and created for this fit-out project.
The delivery of this fit-out project has furnished Jacobs with new offices that offer the perfect balance of a practical, open-plan work environment and a fun, energetic space for employees to collaborate and thrive.
