Audit and tax consultants RSM recently took their new tenancy on the 4th floor within The Ewart Building, overlooking a busy Bedford Street. The Ewart carries a BREEAM excellence rating and displays high environmental awareness. Each level boasts floor-to-ceiling windows that provide maximum natural daylight for the team to work, connect, and collaborate. Working within a design and build contract, Somerville was selected as the main contractor to carry out all specialist joinery and fit-out services for RSM's new commercial offices. Partnering with the team at MOR Architects, their creatives delivered the architectural design concepts for the fit-out project.

The goal was to provide a contemporary, agile office space that encouraged productivity, collaboration, and staff well-being. Work areas vary depending on the individual's needs. So, with spacious open-plan workstations, a selection of comfortable meeting rooms, and private work pods, the team at RSM can choose a work area to suit their requirements. In addition, a large 'town hall style' space provides a relaxed and sociable area for company announcements and team catchups.
On arrival, the team is greeted by a welcoming seating area and a curved glass wall encapsulating the first of four meeting rooms. Each room houses acoustic wall panels and wooden ceiling baffles to soften harsh noises. The floor-to-ceiling glass allows plenty of natural light, and the coloured vinyl graphics create privacy during formal meetings. RSM's branded colours are present throughout the office, with touches visible on the seating and vinyl graphics on the walls or glass.
Staff wellbeing was a core focus for the client, so providing a welcoming and comfortable work environment for the team was an important consideration. Elements of biophilia were incorporated throughout the office, providing a workspace that allows the team to connect with nature and improve their wellbeing and productivity levels. The open-plan workstations are positioned to provide enough space for private working but also encourage collaborative team chats.
Somerville manufactured numerous joinery items for the project as part of the contract. The creative concepts were produced by MOR Architects, and the concepts were developed into workable factory drawings by our in-house design team, ready for manufacturing. Working closely with Somerville joinery and craftspeople, the following items were produced and installed for the new offices:
The quality of the materials used for this joinery and fit-out project has delivered a calm and efficient work environment for the team. Utilising solid oak, oak veneer and Vicenza oak while incorporating Hi-Macs solid surfaces in muted tones, the office palette is neutral and offers a cohesive and timeless interior fit-out solution for RSM.
